About the Snow Fairies
The Snow Fairies open and close the first act. Dancers can expect festive kick-line style choreography with precise styling and long, clean lines. This role can be danced in two different numbers in the show. The first number is the show’s cold-open, and the second number is the combined Act I finale with the Icicles and Snow Queens. Selected dancers may choose which session they perform in or opt to perform in both. A separate course fee is required for each session; dancers performing in both sessions are only required to pay one costume rental fee.

About Valse des Fleurs
Picture twelve showgirls dressed in ruffled, rosette-like bustled skirts. They’re whirling around the stage in a blur of colour and Parisian-style showgirl choreography. At the centre, four statuesque “living flowers” bloom to life, framed by gigantic petals that sway and flutter as if caught in the wind. With Duke Ellington’s cover of Waltz of the Flowers, the ensemble blooms to life!

About The Rats vs. Cats
Once the audience gets to meet the Rat King and their army, Clara is left to defend her Nutcracker. What unfolds is an erotic tango between Clara and the Rat King, flanked by her Cats versus the Rats. An unforgettably classic slow burn track, steamy duo choreography, and a tense standoff will keep the audience on the edge of their seat. Selected dancers may choose which session they perform in or opt to perform in both for The Rats role. A separate course fee is required for each session; dancers performing in both sessions are only required to pay one production fee. Someone cast in a Rat role cannot also play the role of a Cat due to quick changes.

About the Naughty Maids
In the Nutcracker ballet, the maid is often a source of comic relief. We wanted to continue that tradition while also hiking up their skirts, putting a flask in their bras, and instilling a Lucille Ball-style approach to physical comedy. The maids love being the life of the party, but they sure don’t like the chore of setting up for one.

About Cancan Carousel Horses
Balanchine’s Trepak is already a showstopper: explosive, athletic, and bursting with energy. So naturally, we took it and turned it into a cancan. The French Quadrille takes all of that original bravura, cranks it up to the max, and does it in heels and a corset. Dancers can expect authentic French cancan choreography, spectacular tricks, and a physically demanding number designed to bring a roaring audience to its feet.

About The Flamingoes
We’re shaking up the traditional divertissements of the Land of the Sweets. In our version, the Flamingoes of the Land of the Showgirls arrive with tambores, feathers, and plenty of flavour. Set to an Afro-Cuban reimagining of the “Tea” score from The Nutcracker, this vibrant production number blends Afro-Latin choreography with touches of Parisian-style showgirl precision, transforming a familiar classical moment into something altogether more colourful, rhythmic, and unexpected.

About the Peppermint Twists
In the Land of the Showgirls, the traditional Mirlitons get a peppermint-striped makeover. Set to a lively jazz cover of the familiar Nutcracker score, the Peppermint Twists bring New York–style precision tap to the stage with crisp formations, clean sounds, and razor-sharp unison. Midway through the number, the ensemble parts for a featured Peppermint Soloist, complete with an unexpected laser-light dance break, before the full line comes together for the finale.

About the Sugar Plums
The Sugar Plum Fairy floats into her Act II scenes, adorned in light pink and light as a feather. The Sugar Plums in this production are ballerinas of a spicier variety, but stunningly graceful all the same. Erotic floorwork combined with Duke Ellington’s jazz stylings of the Sugar Plum Fairy suite make for a sultry, sticky, sparkly Sugar Plum ensemble.

About Le Nutcracker
Le Nutcracker Showgirl Spectacular is a Bob Mackie–style fever dream inspired by the storyline of the classical Nutcracker ballet. The party-goers are replaced with raunchy swingers, the rats wear 8-inch boots, and we’ve traded in the Land of Sweets for the Land of the Showgirls. Making its world premiere at The Annex in Vancouver on December 10th, this new holiday tradition brings together extravagant costume design, comedic twists on the classic tale, and a spectacular ensemble of showgirls.
How to Audition
These courses for Le Nutcracker are designed for experienced, advanced, and pre-professional dancers to flex their showgirl repertoire and perform in a professional-calibre ensemble production. The first day of each course serves as both a class and an audition. To audition, dancers should register for Audition Day / Course Day 1 only.
Following the audition, selected dancers will be invited to complete their registration by purchasing the Course Fee + Production Fee for their role. Production fee will cover costume rental and other production-related costs. Production fees vary based on intricacy of the role’s costume. Dancers who are not selected to perform will be offered the opportunity to continue training in the remainder of the course by purchasing the Course Fee only.

About The Butterflies
The wind sections of these musical pieces pair deliciously with an elegant chorus of monarch butterflies. The Morpho Blue soloist opens with Rhapsody in Blue, before being joined by the Monarch Butterflies for Tchaikovsky’s “Spanish” divertissement from the original Nutcracker. The hypnotizing chorus, wielding butterfly-painted silk-veil flags, fills the stage with rippling silk wings, transforming the Land of the Showgirls into a kaleidoscope of colour and movement.
